Aircraft spare parts inventory management poses significant cost challenges in aircraft maintenance. Armac Systems, headquartered in Ireland, offers RIOsys, an intelligent solution for optimizing MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul) inventory in the aviation industry. Collaborating with us, Armac aimed to integrate RIOsys with SAP ERP Air & Defense and earn the Powered by SAP NetWeaver certification, thus expanding opportunities in the aviation market.

Problem

Aircraft maintenance organizations grapple with the high costs and complexity of MRO inventory management. The unpredictable nature of parts failures, geographic dispersion of warehouses and the time-sensitive nature of aircraft maintenance create significant challenges for efficient inventory management. Traditional planning models within SAP ERP systems are unsuitable for this unique environment.

Goal of the project

The project’s primary goal was to integrate RIOsys with SAP ERP Air & Defense, offering an efficient solution for MRO inventory planning and optimization. Obtaining the Powered by SAP NetWeaver certification aimed to open new avenues for Armac within the aviation industry.

Solution

Armac’s RIOsys was specifically designed to address the needs of rotable, repairable, consumable, and expendable inventory within the aviation industry. It offers optimized target stock levels at each location in an MRO network, reacting to stock movements and changes to maximize availability while minimizing investment. RIOsys extracts data from SAP and combines it with demand forecasts, using advanced analytics to recommend optimal part distribution.

A key feature is real-time communication with SAP for updates on stock balance, installations and equipment status. Recommendations from RIOsys are transferred to SAP via WebService, triggering relevant SAP transactions such as maintenance orders or stock transfer orders. This seamless integration enables efficient planning and decision-making in real time.

Benefits

The introduction of the integrated SAP – RIOsys solution has yielded several significant benefits for aircraft maintenance organizations in the aviation industry. One of the primary advantages is the substantial reduction in MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul) inventory investment. This reduction translates into substantial annual cost savings, allowing organizations to allocate resources more efficiently.

Moreover, the solution has proven instrumental in maintaining and improving service levels. By optimizing inventory planning and enabling real-time communication with SAP, organizations can ensure that they have the right parts available when needed, reducing downtime and enhancing operational efficiency.

Another important benefit is the improved management control over inventory. The solution’s real-time decision support and automation features empower organizations to make informed decisions quickly. This level of control enhances their ability to adapt to changing circumstances and make adjustments to inventory as needed.

Efficiency is a key advantage of the integrated SAP – RIOsys environment. The solution streamlines inventory management by efficiently balancing stock availability across the network. It minimizes the investment required while maximizing inventory availability, ensuring that the right parts are in the right place at the right time.

In addition to these operational benefits, the integration with SAP ERP Air & Defense and the attainment of the Powered by SAP NetWeaver certification have positioned Armac Systems as a leader in providing efficient solutions for aviation MRO inventory optimization. This certification enhances Armac’s market position and credibility, opening up new opportunities within the aviation industry.
